A prospective study on reliability and effectiveness of different hematological parameters for early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis in a tertiary care hospital of sub-Himalayan region

Background: Neonatal sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in newborn.Early diagnosis neonatal the top priority to all clinicians for early initiation appropriate treatment which will reduce neonates minimizes unnecessary antibiotic therapy lead overwhelming threat multidrug-resistant organism. Aims Objectives: The recent study was undertaken reliability effectiveness hematological parameters Rodwell’s score neonates. Materials Methods: In this study,212 were studied out 88 blood culture proven 39 negative but positive probable sepsis.The rest 85 both parameter considered normal baby taken as control group study. Hematological cases included include total leukocyte count, absolute neutrophil immature/total ratio, platelet C-reactive protein (CRP), other components scoring criteria. Recent statistical analysis system (HSS) done find effectiveness. Results: Analysis showed that immature ratio count have better sensitivity specificity relation parameters.CRP very low.In HSS, it has been shown highly sensitive specific with high predictive value value.Among different studied, association count(P<0.0001)and reduced count(P<0.0001) most consistent indicator found CRP be statistically insignificant(P=0.0703). Conclusion: HSS system, are reliable cheap, simple, less time consuming, cost effective.
